All About Coupons for Dog Food

Last time, I have written an article about “How to Get Rid of Fleas“. Fleas are an unfortunate fact of life for most dogs and dog owners, who will have to do battle with fleas on a seasonal basis every year. Thankfully, there is plenty you can do as a dog owner to help prevent your dog from getting fleas and to help your dog get rid of fleas if they’ve happened to get them. Let’s take a closer look at some simple things you can do to help rid your beloved pet of these pesky parasites.

#1. Use medicated shampoo

One of the simplest things you can do is buy specialized dog shampoo which is designed to kill fleas. You should ideally ask your vet what brand they recommend for your dog, since some formulas may work better than others in killing fleas. All you need to do is wash your pooch with the shampoo, rinse, and let it work its magic. Make sure that you wear gloves during this process, since many fleas will try to “jump ship” while you work the shampoo in.

#2. Get a flea comb and bowl of soapy water

If your dog is being plagued by fleas and you either want to deal with them “au natural” or you’re waiting for medication or shampoo to take effect, one of the best things you can do is sit down with your dog, a flea comb, and a big bowl of soapy water. Simply comb through your dog for those pesky fleas, then smack the comb into the soapy water so that the fleas fall into the bowl. They won’t be able to escape the water because of the film created by the soap and they will drown. You should use dish soap for this because it creates the strongest film.

#3. Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum

vacuum your dogs
You need to vacuum your carpet, rugs, dog bed, sheets–anything your dog might rest on, because these are areas where fleas are either lying in wait to jump on your dog (or you!) or it’s an area where they’ve laid their eggs. Regularly vacuuming these areas, and disposing of the bags outside, can help kill significant portions of the flea population. Vacuuming is essential even if you are using medication to get rid of the fleas, since medication can only kill fleas who bite your dog, and not fleas who are living in the carpet or other areas of the home.

#4. Get flea medication

Flea medication can work both as a preventative measure and as a way to get rid of a current flea infestation. You should consult your vet about the proper medication for your dog, since they will be able to recommend something that is best for your pet. The most common flea medications are those that kill fleas who bite your pet, and is usually administered on a monthly basis for several months to ensure it kills each “round” of fleas who emerge from their eggs. Flea medication can be sometimes be expensive but it is well worth it due to the high rate of effectiveness.

#5. Groom Your Dogs Constantly

Last but not least, please groom your dogs constantly. It’s not just making your dog looking good but also keep him clean. Grooming your dog regularly can keep your dog healthy and comfortable. You can take your dogs to professional grooming shops every weekend or groom your dog at home by yourself. Here is a simple guide for you if you like to learn something more.
